Summer Fun

Summer is well under way and I have had a lot of fun making paper mache birds. I recently found a recipe for paper clay which  makes the process of sculpting so much easier and the forms are stronger.  Having a new medium to work with has brought me new inspiration and enjoyment. I love seeing how the birds take on a personality all their own. Below is the newest bird, Her Royal Highness. Not only does she love showing off her jewels she has attitude and rules her chicken coop with style. She is now up for auction and if you would like her to grace your home or give as a gift just click the link below her photo.

Now meet Blue Rudy. He is a poet and a jazz musician who just happens to be a barnyard rooster.
Not only is he artistic but he has a way with the ladies. The hens in the coop flock after Rudy as he recites his melodious verses.

Rudy is also up for auction this week.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope your summer days are good ones. Be sure to check back for more fowl art.

Just For Fun

When was the last time you did something just for the fun of it?

Luna
acrylic on wood
6 inches x 6 inches

These two paintings were created this week with out a thought or a reason in my mind. I just had fun with colors and letting the paint flow.  I always have fun painting but for some reason these two were exceptionally fun.
They are now on there way to a new home:)

So far I am keeping up my challenge of creating 2 paintings a day.

Garden Petit Challenge - Black- eyed Susans

Black-eyed Susans

"I perhaps owe having  become a painter to flowers"

Claude Monet

Black-Eyed Susans
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on wood cradle panel

I am keeping up on my challenge of creating 2 paintings a day. It always feels good to accomplish ones goal.  Black- Eyed Susans are some of my most favorite garden flowers.  There is something about having several shades of yellow against a field of green that warms ones heart. When these appear in my garden I know summer is really here. I also love to watch the bees as they hover over the tops of these flowers searching for pollen.
Black-eyed susans can be purchased here

Garden Petit Challenge - Texas Blue Bonnets

Texas Blue Bonnets

"We are obligated to leave the country looking as good if not better than we found it"

Lady Bird Johnson

This small painting of Texas Blue Bonnets is the 5th painting in my Garden Petit series. Yes I know blue bonnets do not grow in Montana but after living in Texas for 10 years I do miss them. The shear expanse of this flower on the Texas landscape is breath taking. This is now the time of year you can see the blue bonnets if you live in Texas. I am so jealous of my Texas friends who can see these lush blue fields.  Texas Blue Bonnets can be purchased by clicking here

If you have 5 mins and have never been to Texas to see these magnificent flowers than you may enjoy  this short video

Garden Petit Challenge - Summer Daisies

Summer Daisies

"Where flowers bloom so does hope"
Lady Bird Johnson

 Summer Daisies
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on wood cradle panel.

My longing for spring and summer has prompted me to create a painting challenge for my self. How many small 6 x 6 paintings can I paint in a day? The challenged was fueled by my longing to see the beautiful garden flowers that line the fence outside my art studio windows.  My painting goal is to create 2 paintings a day and so far I have met that goal. The question is can I keep producing 2 a day with my other work?
Summer Daisies are the fourth painting in this series and is now available for purchase here

Welcome The Sun

March Give Away

My apologies to those of you who tried to leave a comment in last months Valentine Give Away. I had technical issues here at my website which made it impossible to leave a comment. I cancelled that give away. Now all the issues have been resolved and the good news is I have another giveaway and I hope you will take the time to leave a comment below.

I thought I would repost  the previous entry on embossed metal.

I always love feed back on colors and styles and it occurred to me that it may be a good time to ask you to leave feedback on the embossed  metal pieces. I have 4 basic colors of wood that I mount the metal on, red, aqua, yellow and green. The metal is either copper or aluminum with various designs embossed on the metal. I free hand draw each design into the metal and then use a patina on the copper and a black antique paint on the aluminum. You can see more embossed metal or purchase one by clicking Here
